Cheap Like Me is a guide in progress on how to have a good time living with an active eco-conscience — and squeeze every dollar till it chokes. Let’s talk about how we do it, and how we can do it better.

Who am I?

I’m a writer in my 30s, obsessed with a good deal and the good life. I’ve worked in journalism, health care and food, as well as fiction and non-fiction. Many of my freelance writing clients are financial businesses for whom I write articles and newsletters.

For the past six years, my husband and I have co-parented our daughter. As much as possible, we’ve worked part-time or not at all to take care of her. I have years of experience as our primary breadwinner, and now my husband is in graduate school. I’m continuing my education, too — I’m currently completing a CFP (Certified Financial Planner) preparation course.

In my spare time, I indulge in alternative/modern rock, literary fiction and memoirs, movies, yoga, good food, occasional travel, and a glass of wine, beer or bourbon. I am an avid gardener, cook, knitter and home-improver.

ok…now i can’t even find the path of how i got to your website. i think it was from getrichslowly. anyway…somewhere i saw that you were trying to get your family to do a “spray and wipe” for #1 to reduce the use of toilet paper. i swear i had an a-ha moment! but when i got to your website i couldn’t find any more on it. i just noticed on the sidebar “use cloth toilet paper” so i will search on that. but if you have any other info, can you share? thanks. erin

    Hi there,
I really like your blog! Sorry if this is not a comment… I was thinking maybe you would be interested in posting your blogs on my website, http://www.altglobe.com which is talking about what’s happening America in terms of green, sustainabillity, spirituality… (Actually I would like it to be worldwide, but hey, you have to start *somewhere* :0) …and “somewhere” is where I live!). I read your last blogs and I think you would find a wonderful fit with our bloggers who are conscious people and would be very interested in economy rhyming with ecology!
All you need to do is creating a profile and let me know you want to post, and then you can actually just *email* your blog whenever you have a new post.
Please check out my website and our current bloggers! They are all on the home page!
(Note you cannot have access to any profile until you are registered, but you can see all the articles).

Please tell me how it sounds to you, hope to hear from you soon…

    cheers

Great blog! Thankfully more of the millennial generation is getting into eco-fashion. In San Francisco there is a modeling school that teaches that kind of stuff!

I’m new to blogging and am spending way too much time at it lately, but am fascinated by the community spirit and the good will all around. I found you through EconoWhiner and between the two of you, I won’t get anything else done. A timer is the only answer. Thanks for what you’re doing.
